Do movies have an expiration date?
I propose that they indeed do.
Am i the only one that never watches a movie twice?
Am I the only one to think that a movie actually has an expiration date (except for a few timeless masterpieces)?
I propose that a movie is really only good when it comes out, and for about 1 month thereafter... except for the rare exception (usually a comedy), a period after which it is outdated... expired per se.
It is outdated because technology has advanced and as more movies increasingly rely on special effects even for the smallest thing, the movie starts to look dated when compared to the new special effects in newer movies, and this visible obsolescence ruins the magic of the movie...
It is also outdated because the movie uses a set of socio-economic and geo-political references to make its point or convey its message, no matter how shallow, and that usually really only exists in a bubble around the time of the movie release, and thereafter these references start disppearing from the consciousness of the public/viewer's mind... taking away this set of references, no matter how little, diminishes the ability to fully comprehend and hence experience a movie..
It is outdated because once you have seen a movie, seing it again is never the same. We also evolve through time, and how you first experienced a movie will never be the same, as yoru mood, state of mind, set of experiences, etc, have changed.
to be continued.... more thoughts to come...
